Safety Meets Security: Implications of the EU Machinery Regulation, Cyber Resilience Act and NIS 2 Directive
Contents
Objectives
The convergence of safety and cybersecurity is transforming the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial machinery. This training is designed to introduce participants to the new EU Machinery Regulation, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and the NIS 2 Directive. It will explain how these updates signify a shift from isolated safety systems to a comprehensive risk management approach, in which cybersecurity is considered a crucial aspect of safety.
Participants will learn how OEMs and End Users must adapt to new responsibilities, face new mandatory requirements, and collaborate to ensure machines are safe to operate and resilient to cyber threats. They will explore the main safety and cybersecurity enhancements in the new Machinery Regulation, examine the scope of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the NIS 2 Directive, and understand the implications of these legislations for OEMs and end users, including their impact on product design, compliance, and operational resilience.
Target Group
This training is particularly oriented towards machine manufacturers, importers, integrators, distributors and end users that need to be updated with the new Machinery Regulation:
- Machine designers
- Commissioning engineers
- Design engineers
- Project and engineering managers
- System integrators
- EHS managers and personnel
- Those responsible for the upgrades of machinery
- Maintenance of the plant
- End users are responsible for the procurement of machinery
Notes
The training is provided in both classroom and online formats with a live instructor. Participants are required to attend on specific dates and times. For online training, a laptop or a smartphone equipped with a webcam, and Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge is required to participate. This training provides an ideal introduction to the Machinery Regulation and an overview of the main changes in relation to the Machinery Directive.
If you have already completed training in CE marking, this training will provide an update on the upcoming Machinery Regulation and the important security requirements for machinery build. For those who wish to pursue further training in the area of CE marking or Security in Automation, the training can provide an advantage in understanding the ‘Basis of CE Marking’ training which is a pre-requisite for ‘CECE – Certified Expert in CE Marking’ certification and an introduction to the cybersecurity legislation that is bases for the training course “Fundamentals of Industrial Security” and the course “CESA – Certified Expert for Security in Automation.
