Pilz and Pintsch are deepening their development partnership with a framework supply agreement - long-term cooperation for digital railway solutions

The automation company Pilz and the expert in safe railway infrastructure, Pintsch, are working together to develop innovative control and signalling technology for digitisation of the railway. By signing a framework supply agreement, the cooperation partners are taking the next step in their collaboration.

In July 2023, Susanne Kunschert, Managing Partner of Pilz GmbH & Co. KG and Tilo Brandis, Managing Director of Pintsch GmbH, signed a framework supply agreement. Long-term cooperation is an important objective for both partners.

Combined expertise for innovative infrastructure
At the centre of the development partnership are innovative solutions, intended to drive digitisation of the railway infrastructure. “Our cooperation is in its early days, but already we can see that our automation solutions are perfect for use in many railway digitisation projects, and can make a significant contribution to the modernisation of the railway infrastructure”, says Susanne Kunschert.

EULYNX Object Controller for German railway project
The first result of their cooperation is the EULYNX Object Controller, which was developed jointly. This translates digital control commands from the interlockings into signals for trackside components. Pilz’s contribution is its safe, innovative railway controller. What’s so special about this solution? Its application is generic and can be transferred to different projects. The EULYNX standard provides a manufacturer-independent interface between various control and safety technology components. “High-performance COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) computers and components offer considerable benefits in the digitisation of the railway infrastructure”, Tilo Brandis explains. As such, technology is the basis for the future in the railway industry.
The Pilz Object Controller will come into use as early as the autumn: in the “Zwieseler Spinne” regional network project, using Pilz technology, Pintsch demonstrates an actual implementation of digital solutions for modernising signal and interlocking technology. The project is part of the fast-track programme run by the German Federal Government, the railway industry and Deutsche Bahn (DB).
