Gateways connect together different types of networks. They provide the opportunity to access networks that use different protocols (e.g. converting TCP/IP to PROFIBUS). One of the tasks of the gateway is therefore to translate different communication protocols.
Please note that you are prompted to enter a gateway when configuring a network under Windows operating systems. However, this entry refers to a Router within the network, if one is present!
