Serial Line Internet Protocol

SLIP provides a simple option for transferring TCP/IP data packets via serial point-to-point connections. This means that end devices that do not have a LAN connection can still be incorporated into the network via the serial interface.
SLIP works in accordance with a very simple algorithm. It has no data security procedure. The actual IP data packet is preceded by a start character (192_D) and an end character (192_D) is attached at the end. To maintain binary transparency, start and end characters within the data packet are replaced in advance by other sequences.
