Serial Line Internet Protocol

SLIP

SLIP provides a simple option for transferring TCP/IP data packets via serial point-to-point connections. This means that end devices that do not have a LAN connection can still be incorporated into the network via the serial interface.
SLIP works in accordance with a very simple algorithm. It has no data security procedure. The actual IP data packet is preceded by a start character (192D) and an end character (192D) is attached at the end. To maintain binary transparency, start and end characters within the data packet are replaced in advance by other sequences.
