The movement function "Safe operating stop (SOS)" in accordance with EN 61800-5-2 monitors the achieved stop positions of an axis and it prevents leaving of the position window while the drive control function is maintained. Depending on the configuration, the monitored zone can consist of the standstill monitoring or of the monitoring of a position window. The drive's control functions are maintained in full. When leaving the monitored position window, the drive is shut down safely to protect man and machine.
In practice, the safe operating stop (SOS) is used when machines or machine parts must be at a defined position window or in standstill- for example, when changing tools at the machine.
