When constructing a new components testing laboratory, system provider for building envelopes Schüco took the opportunity to integrate a contemporary concept for Safety and Security. In future, each test bench should comply with the current requirements of EC Directive 2006/42/EC. The idea was a one-stop permission management system with central rights administration, including safety infrastructure. The requirements: one system that unambiguously controls who has access to the respective test bench. It should also issue operating permissions based on qualifications and personal profiles. Today, an integrated safety concept from Pilz protects people from hazards, minimises operating errors and manipulations, and reduces plant downtimes. At its heart is the operating mode selection and access permission system PITmode flex.
Crystal clear access control
Uniform safety for all test benches

Safety concept includes permission management

The test applications pose different requirements on Safety and Security, based on the size and scope of the test. The aim was to be able to customise these individually depending on the plant. Schüco defined three operating levels: level 1 only allows access to the plant once it has stopped. Level 2 key holders are allowed to carry out inspection tasks or to run applications at reduced speed. Operators with level 3 can access individual data parameters. These requirements are implemented using the operating mode selection and access permission system PITmode flex. Operators have their individual access permission stored on an RFID transponder. Safety locking devices PSENslock and non-contact magnetic safety switches PSENmag secure the gates. The higher-level control instance is the modular small controller PNOZmulti. This holistic safety concept ensures that testing processes now run smoothly.
Benefits at a glance
- All test benches now with a uniform, customisable system for Safety and Security
- With one key, operators have different permissions for a variety of plants
- The test benches meet the current specifications of the EC Directive 2006/42/EC
